Bus188 Entry 5

According to Answer.com, Accounting Information Systems (AISs) combines the study and practice of accounting with the design, implementation, and monitoring of information systems. Such systems use modern information technology resources together with traditional accounting controls and methods to provide users the financial information necessary to manage their organizations. Therefore, accounting information systems and IT are interrelated.

I was online and saw this about AIS and thought that it gave a good description on how AIS integrated with IT.

Input The input devices commonly associated with AIS include: standard personal computers or workstations running applications; scanning devices for standardized data entry; electronic communication devices for electronic data interchange (EDI) and e-commerce. In addition, many financial systems come "Web-enabled" to allow devices to connect to the World Wide Web.

Process Basic processing is achieved through computer systems ranging from individual personal computers to large-scale enterprise servers. However, conceptually, the underlying processing model is still the "double-entry" accounting system initially introduced in the fifteenth century.

Output Output devices used include computer displays, impact and nonimpact printers, and electronic communication devices for EDI and e-commerce. The output content may encompass almost any type of financial reports from budgets and tax reports to multinational financial statements.

Bus188: Entry 3

I have already explained how IT will affects my major at San Jose State however, it will also affect my career. After graduation I will be going to work for Ernst & Young in their Advisory practice focusing on transaction security and risk services. For this, IT is directly related. While I will essentially be doing things such as IT audits and SOX implementation, I will need to have a strong understanding of IT systems. Without the understanding of IT terminology and IT systems, there is no way for me to do my job. Therefore, IT will play an essential role in my career at EY.

Bus188 Entry2

IT has a great impact upon my major as well as my career. As I explained earlier, I am an Accounting information systems major and therefore, my major and future career with be directly related to IT. The purpose of an AIS is to accumulate data and provide decision makers (investors, creditors, and managers) with information to make decision (wikipedia). Therefore, AIS majors are taught to work their way through a variety of programs and understand what the programs are saying. We are taught how to mitigate risks through the use of controls and how to ensure that there is a segregation of duties.

Bus188 Entry 1

So while my major is accounting information systems, IT is directly related to my major. For example, I take classes such as Platform Security and E-Commerce controls, programming and systems development in AIS , and networking and data communications. Therefore, IT will directly affect what I am taught in these classes.
